'Hawa Mahal' is one of the beautiful palace in Jaipur, built in red and pink sandstone in the middle of the city. As the name says ‘Hawa Mahal’ it is named after the palace having maximum windows or Jharokas, and it is so beautifully designed that makes palace quite airy. In the ancient times, during the ruling period of Rajput royals, a tradition of Purdah system was followed which was exclusively for women. Royal queens and princess used to cover their faces with their Ghagra. It was the time when they were not allowed to roam freely and openly anywhere in the palace. It was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, exclusive for royal women to enjoy the daily living of streets and city life. If we talk about the location, the Hawa Mahal still serves complete city view. It is located in the major area ‘Badi Chauper’ of Jaipur and well connected with the premises of the City Palace. There are many local shops near Hawa Mahal attracting tourists for bangles, puppets, Jaipuri Razai, handicrafts, handlooms, textiles, and many more. During the evening time, the lights focusing over the Hawa Mahal, makes it a grand appearance in different shades of light.
